WOW! These are stunning mittens with a 5" cuff to keep out the snow and cold, shaped to fit your hands. The mittens match the Encaustico Hat, and both were designed for us by Varian Brandon. Varian specializes in gorgeous stranded colorwork. Her patterns are detailed and well written with good pattern support so fear not! - you CAN do this!
The mittens are constructed from the bottom up starting at the cuff. The motifs found in both hat and mittens are reminiscent of tiles from Ancient Greece.

Designer
Varian Brandon has been a design collaborator with Mountain Meadow Wool for many years. We met her at a TNNA tradeshow (The National Needle Arts) and she became a friend very quickly.
Varian is very talented and meticulous in her design work. We love how she uses color in unexpected ways and the story she tells with many of her colorwork patterns.
Varian makes her home in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and this year we welcomed her to our Rocky Mountains for a great visit. Over the years she has created beautiful items for us and we continue to work on more.
The Encaustico Mittens were done at the same time as the Encaustico Hat. The hat was first released to our Legacy Yarn Club. is another of Varian's designs to check out.

Care guide
- Alternate dyed skeins while knitting to distribute the color evenly
- Hand wash by soaking in lukewarm water with a mild detergent
- Let the fabric soak for 15 minutes, gently squeeze out excess moisture
- Lay flat and shape to air dry
